The Lyman Raiders will be in the first game of the day on Thursday to face the Viborg-Hurley Cougars in the 1 vs. 8 matchup in Aberdeen at the Class B state tournament.
The Raiders won its last four games after falling to Class A tournament qualifier Stanley County on February 23. The Raiders upset the seven seed Leola/Frederick Area 59-46 last week Tuesday to reach the state tournament. It’s the second straight year the Raiders will be the eight seed after getting eighth place last season. Lyman lost just one senior last year and this year have just Conway Collins and Ben Herman as seniors. Viborg-Hurley looking to get back to the state championship where they lost to Castlewood by 21 last season. The Cougars are 20-3 and have won five straight heading into today’s game. It’s a loaded senior class with seven who will wrap up their basketball careers.
Tip off is at 11:00 AM from the Barnett Center in Aberdeen. It’s the first official game of the boys state tournament with Class A and B starting at 12:00 Central Time in Rapid City.
