The Oahe Capitals will look for its first win against the Yankton Bucks on Thursday to open the state tournament in Sioux Falls. It’s the 3-6 matchup kicking off the entire state tournament.
While the Caps have not beaten Yankton this year, they have led 2-0 in both games, once at the Expo Center and the other time in Mitchell just two weeks ago. However, the Bucks battled back and won 4-2 and 5-2 over Oahe as the Caps finished at 11-10-0-1 while Yankton finished the regular season at 16-5-1, their best record in varsity history. After missing the state tournament last year, Oahe is back in this year and with how the season has gone, it’s best spot in the first round is this matchup with Yankton. And for these seniors, it’s their last two guaranteed games with the Caps needing a win on Thursday or Friday to guarantee playing on Saturday. Landon Badger, head coach of the Oahe Capitals says they’re going to lean on their senior leadership heading into this tournament…
Badger says they ran some scrimmages over the last week to start preparing for the state tournament, but also keeping things light with two weeks between the end of the season and the start of the state tournament…
Badger says the depth of the Capitals is huge this weekend. The third line of offense and those fifth and sixth defenseman are key for a successful weekend…
Coverage of the first game begins at 11:45 with puck drop at 12:00 on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports as we’ll have all 11 games of the weekend with Jon Winkler and Jim Lloyd on the call.
