The Pierre Governor boys and girls basketball teams would fall in both SoDak 16 on Friday and Saturday as the girls would fall to O’Gorman 77-44 while the boys would fall 68-40 on Saturday.
The O’Gorman Lady Knights would win their 20th straight game on Friday to reach the Class AA state tournament. They had the running clock enacted to start the third quarter as the Govs couldn’t handle the press and defensive pressure the Lady Knights threw at them. Sadie Mehrmann had the team high 21 points for OG. Sydney Terveen had 16, Ruby Moore with 14 and Ellie Meyer had 10. The Governors were led by senior Emery Larson with a game high 27 points. Alex Ludemann had eight coming off the bench.
The Governor boys held with Huron in the first quarter trailing by just one 16-15. But the Tigers outscored the Govs in each of the final three quarters to get the lead and the win by 28. Blake Ellwein would have 21 points to lead the Tigers as the South Dakota State commit helped lead Huron back to the state tournament in two weeks. Anderson Porisch had 10 points for Huron. The Govs were led by Cooper Terwilliger with 10 points as the only Gov in double figures. Caiden Ahartz had nine for Pierre who finish the season short of making the state tournament.
The Governor girls finish at 5-16 with seniors Jasmine Jost, Larson, McKenzie Flottmeyer and Paige Sporrer finishing their careers as the boys finish the season at 6-15 and seniors Sincere Wilson, Corde Austin, Jayden Brandt and Lincoln Dilges wrap up their Governor basketball careers.
