The Oahe Capitals would open the girls state tournament with a win over the host team Mitchell Marlins 3-1 on Thursday to reach the state semifinals for a third straight season.
The Capitals were dominant in the first and third period allowing Mitchell just one shot on goal in each of those two periods. Mallory Lehkramp would open up the scoring with a goal stuffing in a shot to give the Caps a 1-0 before Elliot Bertsch made it 2-0 after one scoring on the power play. Vaya Mimmack would make it 2-1 with a power play goal in the second period and the Marlins started to gather some momentum, but Taylah Allerdings would make eight saves on nine shots in the game and Lehrkamp would score her second of the game to make it 3-1 midway through the third to give the Caps some breathing room. Aubrey Stewart and Dakota McEntaffer each got assists on both of Lehrkamp’s goals.
Oahe will face Brookings at 5:00 on Friday in the state semifinals for a spot in the state title game.
