Speck, Oedekoven to Wrestle for State Titles

Two Pierre Governors will wrestle on Saturday for a state championship as Shaylee Speck in the girls 100 and Alex Oedekoven in the boys 144 will be in the finals.

Speck would win her semifinal match by major decision 15-3 as she is now 3-0 at the state tournament as she will face Ella Coomes of Madison in the championship match. Lexie Hillmer and Abbigail Lewis will wrestle for third place after falling in the semifinals but bouncing back and winning in the consolation semifinal. Sydney Caven will wrestle for seventh place going 1-1 on Friday. Pierre is in 11th through two days at 64.5 points. Canton leads with 140 points.

For the Governor boys, Oedekoven would win a narrow 4-3 decision match to reach the championship match where he will face second seeded Graham Wilde of Jefferson on Saturday. Both seniors will be looking for a state title in their final high school match. Jordan Schafer and Porter Hunsley each lost in the semifinals, but just like Hillmer and Lewis, came back to win the consolation semifinals and will be in the third place match. The Govs are ninth at 76 points but trail six by just 12 points. Sturgis leads with 207.5 points.

The place matches will start at 10:00 AM with the championship matches beginning at 1:00 on Saturday.
