The Pierre Governor wrestling teams will have three girls and three boys competing in the state semifinals on Friday with a solid round on Thursday.

The Governor girls will see Shaylee Speck in the 100, Lexie Hillmer in the 135 and Abbigail Lewis in the 155 will all be in the state semifinals. Speck and Hillmer would each get two fall wins to reach the semifinals while Lewis would get a fall win and then a tech fall victory. Sydney Caven had also won the first round match before falling in the quarterfinals. Pierre is in seventh place after the first day at 36 points. Canton leads with 64 total points.

The boys team would get some wild wins to reach the semifinals as Alex Oedekoven, the top seed in 144 would get the fall win in the third period, but the other two victories came down to the final seconds. Jordan Schafer in the 150 would get an escape in the final 10 seconds to win 6-5 to reach the semifinals while Porter Hunsley in the 165 trailed 3-2 in the final five seconds before getting one final takedown to win 5-3. Bode Minder, Walker West, Rowdy Menning and Will Eilers would each reach the quarterfinals but fall to the wrestle backs for Friday. Pierre will start Friday in eighth place at 40 points. Sturgis leads day one at 98 points.
