Governors Get 23 Total Wrestlers to State Tournament

This weekend in Mitchell, the Pierre Governor wrestling teams would head for the region tournament to qualify for the state tournament. The Governor girls would get 10 to qualify Friday and the boys had 13 make it on Saturday.

Starting with the girls Friday evening, the Govs had Lexie Hillmer be the lone Governor to win her region weight class, but the Govs had another nine finish in the top four to qualify of a possible 13. Shaylee Speck, Sydney Caven, Kezrey Benning and Abbigail Lewis all placed second while Chevelle Brakke and Brylee Pelle each placed third. Gemma Stangeland and Jayda Steinke placed fourth.

For the boys on Saturday, Pierre had 13 of the 14 weight classes qualify for the state tournament with Rowdy Menning, Alex Oedekoven, Jordan Schafer and Porter Hunsley each won first place in their weight classes with Noah Horsley, Gable Uhrig, Will Eilers and Kalo Steely each reaching the championship match, but placing second. Daniel Mason, Bode Minder, Walker West and Alec Eilers placed third. Devin Binger had placed fifth, but will still be able to represent the Govs in the state tournament in Sioux Falls.
