The Oahe Capitals would wrap up senior day with a dominating 8-1 win over the Brookings Rangers on Saturday, but would be shutout the next day to the Aberdeen Cougars, 1-0 to close the regular season.
Mallory Lehrkamp would score the first two goals of the game scoring the first of the game just a minute and nine seconds into the contest. Aubrey Stewart would also score two goals as the Caps led 4-1 after the first period and would start run time with just under two minutes remaining in the second period. Ava Lavinger, Brenna Ullman, Addison Hunsley and Micah Buffalo would score a goal each in the win. Taylah Allerdings would stop 22 of 23 shots for the win.
Sunday’s game would be a offensive struggle for both teams as the game remained scoreless all the way until the final minute of the game when Addyson Keller would score the game winning goal unassisted to beat the Caps even being outshot 28-11. Allerdings made 10 saves in net as the Cougars would beat the Caps in two of three games.
Oahe finishes the regular season at 14-7 and will be the three seed at the state tournament. With the win for Aberdeen and Mitchell losing to Brookings, the Marlins fall to the six seed and Aberdeen moves up to the five seed. The state tournament begins at 12:00 on Thursday, March 5 in Mitchell. The Caps and Marlins will play the first game of the tournament.
