PIERRE, (KCCR) — Drought conditions across South Dakota continue to slowly expand at a lack of moisture remains. This week, the U-S Drought Monitor for South Dakota shows a two-percent reduction in no drought to 50-percent drought free. Abnormally dry areas have increased by two-percent while moderate drought is also up two-percent. In central South Dakota, Lyman County went from 37-percent no drought to now only nine-percent drought-free. Abnormally dry areas in Lyman County expanded from 62-percent to now 90-percent. Moderate drought in Lyman County grew five-percent to 24-percent. Buffalo County saw abnormally dry areas introduced in the county’s southeast corner to 10-percent while drought free is now 90-percent. Moderate drought in Brule County expanded nearly 20-percent to 23-point-five percent. Abnormally dry areas in Brule County now represent 100-percent. Jones County saw abnormally dry area grow by 10-percent to 61-percent while drought free areas fell 10-percent to 38-percent.
