PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Department of Transportation is beginning to enact spring load restrictions on some area state highways. Starting this week a six ton per axle limit is in place on South Dakota Highway 52 from Highway 44 to Interstate 90. A seven ton per axle limit is in place on Highway 1806 from the Lower Brule Reservation to U-S Highway 83 just south of Fort Pierre. Starting Wednesday, a seven ton per axle limit is going to start on Highway 26 from Highway 45 to 47 in Hand and Hyde Counties. Motorists are reminded that county road posted load limits are not determined or enforced at the state level. Anyone hauling heavy loads are reminded that load limits actually posted on roads with physical signs take precedence over limits announced by the Department of Transportation. More information on spring load limits, including maps, are available on the South Dakota Truck Information website at sdtruckinfo.sd.gov.
