The Sully Buttes Charger girls wrestling team will be competing at the region tournament tonight while the Charger boys will get its crack at the state tournament on Saturday.
The Charger girls will be a part of one of the two regions to wrestle tonight with the other two regions wrestling on Friday as the Chargers will look to qualify for the state tournament. Sully Buttes, in Region 1, will be in De Smet tonight for the tournament with a total of 26 teams will bring wrestlers to the tournament. The Chargers will be looking for senior Cateri Yellow Hawk to qualify for her sixth straight state tournament appearance in her senior year and has placed at the state tournament her other five years. Paige Jonas and Cheyenne Fuller are the other two seniors for the Chargers also looking to qualify for the state tournament.
The Charger boys will have to wait until Saturday as they will be in Webster for the 1B tournament. Just two seniors on this year’s team with Damian Garcia and Kaydn Westergren with Westergren having a 17-9 record on the season with junior Bryson Heuertz at 27-11. Sully Buttes will be one of 17 teams at the Region 1B tournament on Saturday.
The girls will start at 3:30 this afternoon in De Smet with the boys beginning at 9:30 on Saturday in Webster.
