The Pierre Governor wrestling teams will be in Mitchell both Friday and Saturday this weekend to wrestle at the Region tournaments to qualify for the state tournaments next week.
It’s the final individual tournament of the season before the state tournaments as the Governor girls are coming off an ESD team title and having five win ESD individual titles heading into Friday’s region tournament. A total of 20 teams will be in Mitchell. Pierre is fighting for its five consecutive state girls title, which would remain as the only girls team to win a state championship.
The Governor boys will also be in Mitchell but will wrestle on Saturday. The Governors picked up a consolation championship at the dual state tournament last Friday, but also won the last individual tournament in Yankton prior to this weekend’s region tournament. Pierre wrestles in Region 3A and will see Aberdeen Central, Chamberlain, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte/Dupree/Tiospaye Topa, Huron, Madison, Mitchell and Todd County/White River.
The Governor girls will start its region tournament at 3:00 Friday afternoon with the boys beginning the region tournament at 10:00 AM, all at Mitchell High School.
