The Oahe Capital boys team would split the pair of games this weekend at home beating the Mitchell Marlins 7-0 while falling 9-1 to Sioux Falls East on Saturday.
Noah Lueking would get his first career shutout on Friday night to start the weekend as the Caps officially clinched its spot in the state tournament after missing last year’s state tournament. Logan Anderson and Ian Schweitzer each would score two goals and have two assists in four of the first five goals as the Caps built a 3-0 lead after the first and had a 6-0 just five minutes into the second period to start run time. Ayden Behm, Logan Brown and Brecken Fuhrman also scored in the win for the Caps who now keep the Marlins from catching them in the standings. Lueking made all 15 saves in net.
It was a reversal of fortune for the Caps in the second game of the weekend as the Sioux Falls East Flyers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and had an 8-0 lead after two periods. Ryan Fenton, Tatcher May and Owen Sescher all had two goals in the win with Fenton leading the way with five points on the night. Jim Neddo would stop the shutout of Lincoln Turner stuffing in a rebound from Bridger Babcock’s shot. Jace Hand stopped 25 of 33 shots before Lueking made four of five saves.
Oahe is now 10-7-0-1 and will wrap up the home schedule next weekend hosting Rushmore on Friday and Brookings on Saturday. Games will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports.
