(Onida, SD) – Sully Buttes basketball returns to the Mark Senftner Court Thursday in a double header against Mobridge-Pollock in the interclass match-up. Action will tip-off at 6:30 p.m. for the girls will the boys to follow.
For the Sully Buttes girls, this is their first of two games in a three day span. They enter at 2-14 on the season having lost their last four contest and looking for their first win in February. Their last contest was a 52-33 loss to the Lady Battlers from Gettysburg. Molbridge-Pollock brings a five game winning streak with them Thursday night and are 12-3 on the season. The Lady Tigers defeated Herreid/Selby Area Monday 59-32.
The Mobridge-Pollock are one of the top teams in the Girls Class A Standings currently sit eleventh in the standings. They lead their region over Miller be just over on seed point. A first round bye is still up for grabs for the Lady Tigers. The Chargers are holding onto their first round home playoff game having just over a one seed point advantage over Tiospaye Topa. With not much change in the standings at the bottom of 6B, the Chargers and Thunderhawks are playing for the right to host the other in the first round of the regional tournament.
It will be the 16th meeting since 2011. The Lady Tigers have won the last two meeting, but the Chargers have the series lead at 11-4 since 2011. They won last seasons meeting 61-34. Sully Buttes are seeking their first win against the Mobridge-Pollock since 2023 winning 48-44.
Sully Buttes boys are on one day on and one day off for since Tuesday. They sit 12-4 on the regular season having won their last three games. Their last contest was a 61-45 victory over Herreid/Selby Area. The Tigers area 9-5 on the season. They drafted Todd County 70-58 in their last contest and enter Thursday with a three game winning streak.
The Chargers still hold onto the top of Region 6B but are trying to climb back up in the overall Class B standings now 11th. The Chargers will look for their third win against a Class A opponent which will help their seed point average with a win. Mobridge-Pollock trying to give themselves a top seed in Region 6A which is led by Stanley County.
The Chargers and Tigers will be meeting for the 19th time since 2008. The Tigers are 10-8 and have won the last three meetings. The last outing was a 75-59 win for the Tigers. Sully Buttes last win would be in 2022 winning 52-40.
