The Huron Tigers would beat the Pierre Governors in both girls and boys basketball Tuesday night as the Tiger girls would win 58-36 in Pierre while the Tiger boys would win 54-39.
Pierre was slow out of the gates to score at home as it took over half the first quarter before Pierre would hit its first shot and trailed 9-3 early and 15-5 at the end of the first quarter. Molly Olson and Jordyn Kirkie each had eight while Emery Larson and Zoey Bauer each had five. Huron was led by Hylton Heinz with 21 points for the game high while Jayla Schley had 12 as Huron improves to 9-7 on the season while Pierre drops to 3-11.
The Governor boys also struggled to score early on in the game trailing 14-6 after the first quarter which included a buzzer beating three from Lincoln Dilges to pull the Govs within eight after one as Dilges also had a buzzer beater two to close out the half and led the Governors with 11 points on the night. Cooper Terwilliger had nine before fouling out and Corde Austin had seven for the Governors. Davis Chase had the game high 27 points for Huron. Carter Porisch also had 12 for Tigers who played without their best scorer Blake Ellwein. Huron improves to 12-4 while the Governors fall to 4-11.
Pierre will be off the rest of the week and will return to the court next Tuesday when they face the Brookings Bobcats with the girls at home and the boys on the road. The girls game will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
