PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Dupree man has been sentenced for having a firearm when he wasn’t allowed to. U-S District Judge Eric Schulte sentenced 38 year-old Sam Reede to six months in federal prison on a charge of Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says Schulte ordered Reede to serve two years of supervised release after his prison term. Reede was indicted on the charge by a federal grand jury in February of 2025 and pleaded guilty last September. Parsons says the conviction stems from Reede being in possession of a rifle and ammunition in his residence while being aware he could not possess such a weapon because of a previous felony conviction. Parsons did not indicate what the previous felony conviction was. Reede was placed in the custody of the U-S Marshals Service to begin his sentence. The case was investigated by the F-B-I, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
