The Pierre Governor wrestling teams are back on the mat tonight as they travel to Brandon Valley for an ESD dual as both the girls and boys look for tough wins.
The Governor girls are returning after a Friday tournament in which they placed second at home. The tournament turned into only about half the teams showing up, but still had 20 different schools after the cold weather closed plenty of schools to keep them from coming. Brandon Valley, however, last competed on Tuesday when they host a triangular beating Mitchell 42-21 but losing to Watertown 42-27. Brandon Valley is now 4-2 in duals while Pierre remains unbeaten in duals at 7-0 on the year. The Govs beat Watertown earlier in the month but won’t compete against Mitchell until February.
The Governor boys get a massive ESD dual to try and keep pace to the top of the Class A dual standings. Right now it’s the 4-5 matchup in the standings as both teams have just two losses in the state. The Governors are 8-2 after going 3-1 on the weekend with the only loss to Sturgis and also knocking off ESD opponent Harrisburg. Brandon Valley, at 11-2, went 2-1 in Pierre on Saturday at the East/West duals also losing to Sturgis, but the other loss for the Lynx is against Aberdeen Central, who the Governors beat. However, on Tuesday, the Lynx beat both Mitchell and Watertown which the Governors dropped a home dual against Watertown. Tonight’s dual can go a long way to deciding seeding for next month’s dual state tournament in Pierre.
The duals begin at 5:00 in Brandon tonight with a rolling schedule.
