FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — More people are throwing their hat in the ring for the June 2nd primary election across South Dakota. The latest to have their petitions into the South Dakota Secretary of State’s Office include Marilyn Ring for Auditor in Hyde County. The will be a primary election for Sheriff in Stanley County this year. Dustin Baxter has submitted petitions and will face Greg Swanson for Sheriff. Gary Nickerson has announced his run for Stanley County Sheriff, but any petitions have not been submitted as of mid-day Thursday. Swanson filed his petitions January 8th with Baxter filing on January 20th. Greg Palmer has turned in petitions to run for a county commission seat in Hand County, while Kevin Baloun has done the same in Hyde County. No legislative candidates from Districts 21, 23, 24, 26, 27 or 28 have filed petitions. Candidates have until March 31st to file petitions for office. Independent candidates have until April 28th. Absentee voting begins April 17th for the June primary election.
