FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Stanley County grand theft case against a Pierre woman may becoming to an end in February. A status hearing in the case against 47 year-old Dusti Deal took just minutes to complete. Sixth Circuit Judge Bridget Mayer asked Deal’s attorney Katie Thompson if the sides in the case have come to a resolution. Thomson told Mayer the prosecution and defense are close to a deal in the case and requested another hearing in February. Deputy Stanley County State’s Attorney Anna Maher had no objection to the continuance request. Deal was charged in May of last year on a single charge of Grand Theft. According to a probable cause affidavit on file in Stanley County, Division of Criminal Investigation Special Agent Charles Swanson reviewed financial transcripts from the Community and Youth Involved Center in Fort Pierre. Swanson’s review highlighted multiple suspicious transactions made with a business debit card controlled by Deal from January of 2022 to December of 2024. The investigation discovered over 45-thousand dollars in unauthorized charges. Deal admitted to the purchases in a May 8th interview with Swanson and admitted to not intending to pay the money back. The maximum penalty for Grand Theft by Embezzlement is 10 years in prison and/or a 20-thousand dollar fine, a Class Four felony.
