(Timber Lake, SD) – Sully Buttes basketball started a stretch of road games Tuesday night which saw them make a trip to Timber Lake to battle the Panthers. It would be a tough night for Sully Buttes as they were swept 57-49 in the girls game and 56-51in the boys contest.
Between the two games unofficially 79 fouls and 78 turnovers occurred in what was an even flow in both contest. The Sully Buttes girls saw a better shooting output, but turnovers and easy shots for the opponents would be all the Lady Panthers needed to steal the win. The Chargers outscore Timber Lake 18-10 in the second quarter take a lead into the half. However it would be a 30 plus second half outing that would spoil the Chargers chances in a second win of the season. Three Chargers were in the double digit scoring included Jaydn Jaeger with 19 points, Scottlyn Kinney with 11, and Ellie Nelson with 10 points on the night.
The boys game was back and forth for a moment with five lead changes and four tie occurring the game. Despite attempting 60 shots from the field for the Chargers, they would only shoot 32 percent while the Panthers shot nearly 50% from the field and over 35% from three. Sully Buttes after having a 26-25 after one half of play were outscored 31-25 in the second half to fall 56-51. The Chargers shot 5-11 from the free thrown line in the game. Gavin Colson would score 18 points to lead the way for the Chargers. Wesley Wittler added 15 with Jett Yackley scoring 10 for the Chargers.
The girls drop to 1-9 on the season while the boys drop to 7-2 on the year. The girls host Stanley County on Thursday at around 7:30 p.m. CST while the boys have a date with Hill-Beaver Creek on Saturday in the Dakota Valley Classic at around 4:30.
