(Timber Lake, SD) – A start of many road games for both Sully Buttes basketball teams starts Tuesday against the Panthers from Timber Lake. For the girls, they will have three of their next four games on the road while the boys start five straight road games Tuesday. Both the girls and boys will look to start the week and road series off right with a win in Timber Lake. Both teams with great opportunities to pull off wins in a double header. Tip-off is set for 5:15 P.M. MTN for the girls with the boys to follow.
The Sully Buttes girls enter Tuesday night’s game at 1-9 after falling to Miller 45-12 last Thursday. The Chargers are currently facing a four game losing streak with losses to Ipswich, Highmore-Harrold, Redfield, and Miller. Their lone win of the season was against Aberdeen Christian. The Chargers have had their ups and downs in multiple games this season, but their loss on Thursday was a mixture of tough shooting and multiple turnovers including three made shots from the field and over 20 turnovers. However, this is a chance for the Chargers to steal one against the Panthers from Timber Lake.
The Lady Panthers enter at 2-7 on the season, but are entering the game coming off a win against Bison 61-42. In their two wins this season, Timber Lake scored 60 plus points to take the victory. They would defeat Faith 64-63 in their other win of the season.
Sully Buttes and Timber Lake currently have two common opponents entering Tuesday night’s match-up. Phillip and Herreid/Selby Area and both would be losses for Sully Buttes and Timber Lake.
The Chargers have the current series lead since 2013 being 11-2 in their 13 matchups played since 2013. The Lady Panthers would win the last meeting 39-38 in a low scoring affair. Sully Buttes last win was in 2024 when they won 58-34. The last four meetings have been split 2-2 with each team going back and forth.
The Sully Buttes boys are entering 7-1 after their closest win of the season against Miller at home where they squeaked by the Rustlers 60-57. The Chargers currently sit on a two game winning streak and will take their 7-1 record and will look to one up the Panthers who sit 7-2 and currently ride a four game winning streak against the Chargers.
Both the Chargers and Panthers have one common opponent entering tonight’s double header. Their lone common opponent is Philip where the Chargers and Panther both were victorious in 30 point wins over the Scotties. It will also be just their third road game of the season for the Chargers. This is the first time this year the Chargers start a series of games on the road playing their first in what will be five straight road games.
Both Sully Buttes and Timber Lake have been frequent opponents. They will have their 11 meeting since 2018 according to Maxpreps. The Chargers have had the Panthers number winning eight out of the 10 meetings to date. Sully Buttes won the last meeting on January 21, 2025 58-48. The Panthers last win was in 2024 winning 66-65. Like the girls, Sully Buttes and Timber Lake have split the last four meetings.
