The Pierre Governor basketball teams are set to return to the court tonight with the boys hosting the Douglas Patriots while the girls will be on the road to Box Elder.
For the Governor girls, it’s the first game since Saturday, January 10 with a loss at home to Washington. Pierre is currently 2-5 and have lost four straight with losses to Harrisburg and Washington two weeks ago. Pierre is about to start a really tough stretch with three straight games against the top teams after facing Douglas tonight. Pierre will be on the road to Douglas tonight and then will face 8-0 Brandon Valley on the road Thursday, 6-1 Aberdeen Central on the road next Tuesday and 6-1 O’Gorman at home next Friday. While the schedule hasn’t been easy to begin the season, it will become its most difficult over the three game stretch starting on Thursday. But tonight, the Govs have to handle business against the 1-5 Patriots. Douglas beat Belle Fourche on January 10 in the last game so both teams come in with the same amount of break. Pierre will look to stop the four game skid.
The Governor boys are looking to stop a five game losing streak after the loss to Tea on Tuesday at now 2-6 on the year. They face the 1-5 Patriots at home before hosting Brandon Valley on Thursday. Pierre’s had one of the toughest schedules over the course of the last five games with four of the five games with teams having above .750 win percentages. The Patriots are in the bottom spot of the AA standings, but did beat Belle Fourche last time out for its lone win of the season. Both Governor teams are dealing with injuries hoping to get back to full strength either tonight or soon.
The girls will tip off at 8:00 Central Time in Box Elder. Coverage of the boys game tonight will begin at 6:30 with tip off at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
