The Stanley County Lady Buffaloes had an eight point lead at halftime Tuesday night at home against the Gettysburg Lady Battlers, but would fall 42-38 coming up just short of picking up the first win of the season.
The third quarter would doom Stanley County in the loss as they scored just one point, going 1-2 from the free throw line as the 25-17 lead at the break turned into a 35-26 deficit heading into the fourth quarter. But the Lady Buffs wouldn’t go down without a fight. Stanley County stormed back to make it a one possession game in the final seconds and had an opportunity to tie it, but couldn’t knock down a shot and a final free throw with two seconds left gave the Lady Battlers it’s third straight victory to improve to 3-6 while Stanley County falls to 0-9. Addy Deal would lead the way for Stanley County as she finished with 15 points on the night while Kynzi Hall had 12 and JoRayah Walker had eight.
Stanley County will host powerful Lyman on Thursday in a standalone girls game with the boys in Murdo for the Jones County Invitational earlier in the day. Tip off is scheduled for around 7:45 from the Parkview Auditorium in Fort Pierre.
