The Pierre Governor boys basketball team would fall short of a comeback against the Tea Area Titans on Tuesday in a 63-43 loss on the road as the Govs have dropped five straight.
Pierre had 10 first half turnovers and it felt like the Govs had every single turnover turn into Tea points, especially in the first half. The Govs down 16-6 after the first quarter, started the second on a 9-0 run to get within one, but then did not score the remainder of the quarter and trailed 30-15 at the break. With the largest lead of 17 during the third, Pierre again rallied and had a big third quarter from Sincere Wilson with the loss of Logan Witte to injury. He had nine of the Governor 23 points as the lead was trimmed down to just nine at the end of three. However, Pierre scored just five in the fourth as the Titans pulled away to win its seventh straight and move to 7-1 on the season. Jerren Deal had the team high 14 points followed by Wilson and Corde Austin having nine as the Govs turned the ball over 17 times in the game. Gavin Shawd had 16 first half points to lead the way with a 25 point night while Grifin Wiebenga had 16 for the Titans.
Pierre falls to 2-6 on the season and will be back in action next Tuesday when they host the Douglas Patriots with the girls traveling to Box Elder. KCCR will have coverage of the boys game on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
