Governors Beat Harrisburg, Both Boys and Girls Second at Monster Tournaments

The Pierre Governor wrestling teams were busy this weekend with a trip to Presho for Monster tournaments as both teams finished in second place while the girls also got a win over Harrisburg on Friday.

On Friday night, the Governor girls had its first home event of the season and would knock off the Harrisburg Tigers 60-24. Gemma Stangeland, Lexie Hillmer, Kezrey Benning and Lela Lindquist would all get fall wins for the Governors while Evelyn Coughlin would win by injury time for the Govs five wins. Pierre also had five forfeit wins. Then came Saturday and the Governor girls would get 166.5 points finishing in second to Canton who scored 251 points. Benning and Abbigail Lewis each would win their weight class while Shaylee Speck and Hillmer each would place second getting into the finals. Aubrey Fischer and Brylee Pelle each placed fourth.

For the Governor boys, it would be a two day tournament as the Govs placed second to Sturgis with a 246.5 while the Scoopers scored 331.5 points. Alex Oedekoven would add another tournament championship to the year in the 144 while Gable Uhrig and Bode Minder each made the championship match and Porter Hunsley placed third with Jyles Auble, Rowdy Menning, Jordan Schafer and Will Eilers placing fourth. Overall 16 of the 24 wrestlers participating would hit the podium for the Governors.
