The Pierre Governor boys basketball team would not be able to stop the Lincoln Patriots in the first quarter as the Patriots would drive to a 72-37 win over the Govs on Tuesday.
It was a 20-4 lead for the Patriots in the first quarter as the Govs could not find an answer for Lincoln’s powerful offense. The Patriots had a double digit lead before the Govs could get on the board. It led to a 39-11 lead at halftime for Lincoln and the running clock would be enacted early on in the second half as Lincoln continues to be unbeaten at now 6-0 on the season while the Governors drop to 2-4. Sam DeGroot and Sam Ericsson each would have 17 points while Brody Nour had 12 with eight of his 12 coming quickly in the first quarter. Pierre was led by Logan Witte who had seven points in the loss while Sincere Wilson, Jerren Deal, Corde Austin and Cooper Terwilliger all would finish with six.
The Governors will regroup and head on the road Saturday to face the Washington Warriors. Tip off from Sioux Falls is at 2:00.
