FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Fort Pierre City Council heard just how close the city was to a very bad situation with the city’s water supply in December. Fort Pierre Water Superintendent Joey Montana says they used a lot of water during a second water restriction as work to connected a new portion of Mni Wiconi Coreline was paused…
Montana says there was still 270-thousand gallons remaining when he put the city on a smaller 300-thousand gallon tank to increase water pressure for residents on Verendrye Drive…
Montana says the delays that extended the restrictions included missing parts, broken pipe and a misalignment of pipe…
Montana says if the repairs had taken any longer or were done in the spring Fort Pierre would have run out of available water, even under the water restrictions. Fort Pierre was on track for adding more water storage last year, but the City Council voted to kill the project.
