The Pierre Governor wrestling teams would both get wins to open 2026 as the Governors swept the Huron Tigers as the boys would win 56-16 and the girls would grab the 54-12 win.
Both teams are still undefeated at now 2-0 as both Huron teams lost for the first time this season. For the Governor girls, Shaylee Speck, Sydney Caven, Aubrey Fischer, Gemma Stangeland, Jersey Lewis, Kezrey Benning and Abbigail Lewis would each get fall wins to help push the score with the bonus points. Pierre won eight of the ten matches, all by pinfall while Brylee Pelle would get a forfeit win to round out the 56 points.
The Governor boys would get a few less fall wins but still beat Huron eight of 12 matches with two forfeit wins. Gable Uhrig, Bode Minder, Walker West, Porter Hunsley, Kalo Steely and Devin Binger would get the fall wins. Rowdy Menning would get a tech fall win and Will Eilers would get a 9-4 decision win as Pierre did not get pinned at all in the dual. The Governors are 2-0.
You can see a full list of the results for each varsity dual below. The Governors will head to Yankton on Tuesday for a triangular against Yankton and Brookings. The triangulars begin at 4:00 with a rolling schedule at Yankton high school.
