PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Hughes County Commission looks to kick-off 2026 Tuesday afternoon with its first meeting of the new year. Commissioners will hold its annual reorganization with the election of a new chair and vice char and will take action to appoint the positions of Equalization Director, Emergency Manager, Highway Superintendent and Veterans Service Officer. The Commission will also declare an official newspaper, depositories and acknowledge a guide on open meeting laws. Commissioners will consider approval of four resolutions regarding salaries, votes centers, compensation of election workers and the enforcement of weight limits on county roads. Other agenda items include approval of the annual volunteer board lists and appointments, an agreement with Stanley County for emergency management, the working calendar for 2026, jail contracts and cost of living adjustments for the new year. The Hughes County Commission meets Tuesday afternoon at three pm in the second floor Commission chambers. The meeting is open to the public.
