PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources has formally announced the appointment of Dr. Mendel Miller of Pierre as South Dakota’s next State Veterinarian. Miller will also be serving as the Executive Director of South Dakota’s Animal Industry Board. Miller has served as Assistant State Veterinarian since 2009. Miller takes over for Dr. Beth Thompson and has served previously as Assistant State Vet to Thompson, Dr. Dustin Oedekoven and Dr. Sam Holland. Miller says he’s grateful for the opportunity and the privilege of working alongside with Holland, Oedekoven and Thompson, where he learned under each of them. Before his tenure with the Animal Industry Board, Miller owned and operated a mixed-animal practice in Canton for 13 years and is a 1991 graduate of the Kansas State University School of Veterinary Medicine. The South Dakota Animal Industry Board is responsible for protecting and preserving the health of the State’s livestock to enhance productivity and ensure the safety of meat products for the public.
