The Pierre Governor football team would be honored with three selected for the Legacy Awards for the 2025 season which included two athletes and the Governor trainer.
The Governors would win its eighth title in nine years and ninth title overall this past season and still are receiving awards for the accomplishments of the year. The legacy awards are given to coaches, players and trainers around the state from all seven classes based on positions and given with a namesake to their position. The Governor would receive the Dallas Goedert Tight end award with Cooper Terwilliger winning the honor. Terwilliger finished with 38 receptions and 549 yards with four touchdowns. The George Amundson Athlete award would be given to the Governors Carter Schiefelbein. Schiefelbein would set a new school record for yards and receptions with 73 receptions for 1379 yards and 15 touchdowns also finishing with the second best single season yard mark in South Dakota history. Both Terwilliger and Scheifelbein are juniors this season. They are selected out of all seven classes which Steele says is the part that makes it special…
The Governors also received the Nathan Breske Trainer of the Year award given to Kacie Mikkelsen for her work on and off the field getting ready the athletes ready for games and helping those hurt or injured during the game including the opponent. It’s a very respected award with trainers working behind the scenes but earning the respect of all the other coaches. Steele says this was the real fun part to see Mikkelsen get selected…
