Pierre native, Carter Sanderson doesn’t get a lot of time at home during the season or throughout the year, but when he is home, Sanderson enjoys being able to be on the ice with the people he grew up with, having fun.
Wednesday nights at the IceBarn in Pierre, Huff and Puff games will be played for anyone who wants to play hockey young and old. Sanderson has been able to join those games when he’s been home even if it is few and far between. Sanderson was home after winning the gold medal with Team USA at the World Junior A Challenge before heading back to Muskegon to continue the USHL season after Christmas. The Lumberjacks will be in Sioux Falls next weekend, January 9-10. But while in Pierre, Sanderson says getting time on the ice with former teammates and coaches at the IceBarn is a lot of fun…
Sanderson is still in his senior year of high school and has a Clark Cup Championship in the USHL and a gold medal at an international competition and Sanderson says talking to former teammates and the guys who grew up together and them realizing he’s still in high school puts into perspective his success…
While playing at the USHL Sanderson doesn’t think about being a kid from South Dakota who’s won a Clark Cup, a Gold Medal and has been drafted continuing to make South Dakota first as a hockey player. But when he comes back to Pierre, he’s reminded of how special it is…
Sanderson will play his first game back in South Dakota since playing for the Sioux Falls Power two years ago when Muskegon visits the Sioux Falls Stampede on Friday and Saturday, January 9-10.
