Earlier this month, former Oahe Capital and Pierre native, Carter Sanderson would help Team USA win the gold medal at the World Junior A Challenge in Quebec, Canada.
The World Junior A Challenge is a round robin tournament, formatted like the Four Nations Face Off like the NHL did last year with two teams from Canada along with Sweden and the United States featuring the best USHL players in the country. Sanderson was selected to play for Team USA from the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Team USA would lose to Canada East 4-1 to open the tournament before winning the remaining four games beating Sweden 7-1, Canada West 4-0, Sweden again 4-2 in the semifinals and Canada West in the finals 5-1. Sanderson would pick up an assist in the 7-1 win over Sweden in the round robin before scoring two of the four goals in the semifinals against Sweden and then assisting on a goal in the gold medal game which ended up being the game winning goal.
