PIERRE, (KCCR) — Just before Christmas, the Pierre/Fort Pierre Community Foundation and Youth Philanthropy fund awarded five-thousand 550-dollars to area non-profits for the work they do in central South Dakota. Destination Imagination-Pierre received grants totaling 18-hundred dollars with one-thousand 550 dollars coming from the Community Foundation and 250-dollars coming from the Youth Philanthropy fund. The Governor Grocery food pantry also was awarded funds from both organizations. Governor Grocery was awarded a total of on-thousand dollars with 750-dollars from the Community Foundation and 250 from the Youth Philanthropy fund. The Pierre Tennis Club was awarded 750-dollars from the Community Foundation. The single largest award went to the Sharpe Shooter Disc Golf organization for two-thousand dollars from the Community Foundation. Both endowed funds have granted since their respective inceptions over 680-thousand dollars. The endowments are held by the South Dakota Community Foundation and managed by local advisory councils.
