(Onida, SD) – Sully Buttes basketball got the Christmas break going early with a double header on Monday hosting Wolsey-Wessington. The girls fell 55-34 while the boys picked up a 63-49 win.
While the scoreboard was not on their side, this game showed some good things from the Sully Buttes girls. The Chargers girls were look to find some confidence with the their team while also working on some key things to help build on for the season. The Chargers started slow but in the end, seven different players were in the scoring column. Trailing 38-18 after one half of play, the Chargers couldn’t keep paces with the fast offense from the Lady Warbirds in the end. The second half saw some good offense play from the Chargers. Executing plays, playing their game, and giving everyone their opportunities. Sully Buttes limited their turnovers from over 20 per game to 16 Monday. The Chargers were led by Jaydn Jaeger with 17 points. The Chargers shot 43% from the field. The final was 55-34
The Charger boys were looking to continue their hot start to the season off of just one day of rest and it proved to be good rest for Sully Buttes winning 64-39 winning their third game of the season and continue their home winning streak at 13. The Chargers would outscore the Warbird in three of the four quarters. Chargers took a 31-21 lead after one half of play. Wesley Wittler would get his points on the even scoring 23 points, but it would be Jett Yackley scoring 16 of his own to help Sully Buttes. The Chargers outscored Wolsey-Wessington 32-28, but it was the fourth quarter that help pulled the Sully Buttes away from the Warbirds scoring 18 points and went on an 11 point run to begin the fourth. The final score was 64-39.
The girls drop to 0-4 on the season while the boys improve to 3-0. Sully Buttes basketball is back in action after Christmas on Tuesday against Phillip in a double header on the road.
