The Pierre Governor basketball teams are back on the court this weekend, but for the final time in 2025 as the boys host Sturgis and Spearfish while the girls will travel.
Both teams are 1-1 on the season after splitting weekend games against Rapid City Stevens and Central. The Governor girls were at home last weekend but will travel to face the Scoopers and Spartans. Both teams are coming in at 1-0 with the Scoopers beating Lead-Deadwood on Tuesday and the Spartans beating Belle Fourche last weekend. Pierre’s defensive effort in the win on Saturday as exceptional along with the scoring by Emery Larson knocking in 25 points.
The Governor boys will also face teams who are both 1-0 with the Scoopers beating Lead-Deadwood on Tuesday and the Spartans winning last weekend over Belle Fourche. The Governors won a close game Friday against Stevens and nearly came back against Central on Saturday losing by just three points. The Govs look like they can be balanced in scoring getting shots to fall from both starters and guys coming off the bench.
The Governor girls will have tip off at 8:00 Central Time on Friday and 3:00 Central Time on Saturday while the boys games will have a tip off time at 7:00 on Friday with Saturday’s game having tip off time at 2:00. Friday’s boy’s game will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
