FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — The City of Fort Pierre will be going under a water restriction tonight. The water restriction will be in place starting at 10 pm this evening until further notice. The United States Bureau of Reclamation and the Mni Wiconi Rural Water System will be connecting a new core line with the current core line. The flowing water will be shut off to the City forcing the city to use water currently in storage. The City of Fort Pierre is asking water customers to limit unnecessary water usage during the restriction to preserve firefighting capacity in the city. Anyone with questions about the water restriction is asked to contact the City of Fort Pierre at 605-223-76-90. The Bureau of Reclamation has been working on the Mni Wiconi core line most of 2025 in an effort to repair a core line that has seen frequent breaks in the past several years. The Fort Pierre City Council was moving forward with a plan to increase storage capacity by one-million gallons to avoid such restrictions, but the Council ended the project in October of 2024.
