Governor Boys Place Third in Mandan, Girls Second in Watertown

The Pierre Governor boys wrestling team would get third as a team at the Mandan Lions tournament to open the season this weekend in Mandan, North Dakota as the girls would place second in Watertown.

The Governor boys team would score a total of 260.5, getting third place behind only Sturgis at 342 and Legacy, North Dakota at 303.5. Pierre would see five athletes in the championship matches which included a weight class championship for Alex Oedekoven in the 145. Gable Uhrig in the 127, Rowdy Menning in the 139, Jordan Schafer in the 152 and Porter Hunsley in the 172 would all get second place in their weight classes. Daniel Mason in the 114 and Alec Eilers in the 215 would each get third place while Will Eilers at the 189 finished in fifth place. The Governors saw just Sturgis and Stevens from South Dakota with the other 11 teams were all from North Dakota.

For the Governor girls, Pierre scored a 179, placing second behind only Canton who finished at 263.5 points. Lexie Hillmer would open the season with a weight class championship in the 140 while Kezrey Benning in the 145 and Abbigail Lewis in the 155 each would finish in second place with three weight classes making the championship for the Govs. Sydney Caven in the 100 and Layne Heasley in the 125 each placed third with Brylee Pelle in the 235 and Shaylee Speck in the 105 each reaching the third place match, but finishing in fourth. Kori Ringstmeyer in the 100 and Gemma Stangeland in the 125 each placed fifth.
