The South Dakota girls basketball season opens up Tuesday. The Sully Buttes Chargers girls basketball season starts Tuesday evening in Ipswich against the Lady Tigers.
This season the Chargers will look to best their 8-12 record from a season ago where they fell in the opening round Region 6B Tournament. The Chargers will have six seniors this season including Berkley Birney, Jayden Jaeger, Nevaeh Westphal, Scottlynn Kinney, Myli Weischedel and Tavery Smith led by Head Coach Susie Rulling entering her fourth season as the head coach.
Ipswich enter the season after finishing 11-11 from a year ago. They would also fall in the opening round of the Region 6B playoffs. Head Coach Brian Hogie enters his 20th season in Ipswich with five senior playing for the Lady Tigers this season.
Both teams will be looking to get off in the win column to start the season. The Chargers and Lady Tigers have opened up the season against each other the last eight seasons. Sully Buttes have the series dating as far back as 2007 winning 16 of the 22 games played according to MaxPreps. Ipswich did win the one and only game last season 49-35 which snapped a four game winning streak for the Chargers against the Lady Tigers. Sully Buttes’ last win against Ipswich was two years ago where they won 65-30.
