PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Fort Thompson man has been sentenced to time served for failing to register as a sex offender. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says Chief Judge Roberto Lange sentenced 43 year-old Michael Lovejoy to what equates to a ten-month prison term. Lovejoy will have to serve five years of supervised release and must pay a 100-dollar assessment to the Federal Crime Victims fund. Lovejoy was indicted on the charge back in June and pleaded guilty in August. Lovejoy was placed on the sex offender registry as a result of a Pennington County conviction for a Third Degree Rape charge. Sex offenders have three days to update residency when changing the location of a home. In November of 2024, as Lovejoy began his supervised release from the Pennington County charge, he updated his residence to Fort Thompson. However, after doing so, he was not living at the registered address. An arrest warrant was issued and Lovejoy was first arrested on the Failure to Register charge in March of this year.
