After a 2-0 start to the season, the Oahe Capitals boys varsity team will have two tough tests facing the Sioux Falls West and East Flyers on Saturday and Sunday on the road.
The Caps are coming off a last second shot win and a dominating second and third period win to be at 2-0 to start the year against Mitchell and Aberdeen, both of whom were in the consolation side of the bracket last year. This weekend, the Caps face the second and third place teams from last year’s state tournament taking on the West and East Flyers. The Capitals will face West first, who beat Mitchell 8-4 to open the season as they peppered 66 shots on goal last Friday for the home win.
On Sunday, the Caps will face the East who is also 1-0 heading into the weekend. The Flyers beat Sioux Center 11-1 to open the year on the road on Sunday, but tonight will face the Brookings Rangers in Brookings. It’s the first official test for East before having the day off on Saturday and hosting the Capitals on Sunday afternoon.
Both games will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with coverage starting around 5:50 Saturday night and then at 2:10 on Sunday at Scheels Iceplex in Sioux Falls. Jon Winkler will have the call.
