Both the boys and girls Oahe Capitals teams would get wins on Sunday as both are 2-0 to start the season. The Girls would beat Aberdeen 1-0 with the boys winning 6-2.
In the girls contest, Brenna Ullman would stuff in a rebound late in the first period for the only goal of the game as the Caps were sound defensively and Kylee Fromm would get a 27 save shutout, her first in her varsity career to beat the Cougars. Oahe had to kill off six penalties against and kept Aberdeen out of the back of the net. Oahe, Brookings and Sioux Falls would be the only three teams to go undefeated in the first weekend. The Caps will face Brookings on the road next Saturday.
In the boys contest, Dylan Dodson would score early on with a fanned on pass attempt which snuck in between the Aberdeen’s goalies legs to lead 1-0. However, two rebound goals would give the Cougars a 2-1 lead after the first period. But, the Caps were undeterred scoring the final five goals of the game, including four in the second period. Jim Neddo would tie the game with his first varsity goal before Ayden Behm would get puck luck as his shot was blocked by the goalie and then kicked in from a Cougar skate to give the Caps the lead back at 3-2. A 5-on-3 power play goal for Cooper Beastrom and a power play goal for Ian Schweitzer made it 5-2 after the two periods. Dodson would add his second of the game and fourth of the weekend with another power play as the Caps start 2-0 on the season.
Capital City Rock’s next broadcast will be Friday with the Lady Caps home opener hosting the Rushmore Thunder. Coverage will start at 5:40 with puck drop at 6:00 with Jon Winkler on the call.
