Pierre native and former Oahe Capital will be wearing the country’s colors as Carter Sanderson will be representing Team USA at the World Junior A Challenge in Quebec, Canada December 7-13.
The challenge is for those competing in the top tier junior programs in the countries of the United States, Canada and Sweden. This is not the same tournament of the World Junior Championships which is ran by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) It is more formatted like the Four Nations Tournament which was played by the NHL last February. The U.S. will face Canada East, Canada West and Sweden in a round robin. Sanderson, who plays for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL, will be a part of Team USA which is comprised of the top USHL players in the country. Five U.S. Junior Select Team players have been drafted which includes Sanderson when he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in June. Team USA will open with a pre tournament game against Canada West on Friday, December 5 with their tournament starting at 2:00 Central time on Sunday, December 7 against Canada East then playing again on Monday, December 8 at 2:00 against Sweden and then at 6:00 on Wednesday, December 10 against Canada West. The semifinals are on Friday, December 12 and the championship day on Saturday, December 13. Follow the link below for schedules and information about the event.
