PIERRE, (KCCR) — A ceremony will be held Thursday afternoon to formally open Capitol Lake to public fishing. Governor Larry Rhoden will be among those attending along with several Game, Fish and Parks staff members. G-F-and-P officials have been preparing the lake in recent weeks. Aquatic Habitat and Access biologist Jason Jungwirth says approximately three-thousand rainbow trout have been stocked in Capitol Lake in the last two week. Along with the rainbow trout, anglers may also hook largemouth bass, catfish, carp and bullhead. Fishing will be allowed on Capitol Lake to the public with no age restrictions on those allowed to fish. Fishing can take place on Capitol Lake from sunrise to sundown and all fishing must be accomplished by shore. Fishing on the water by boat or other device is prohibited. Signs posted along the shore will point out areas that are either open or closed to shore fishing. A limited number of fishing equipment will be available during event from the First Catch Center trailer across from Hyde Stadium.
