PIERRE, (KCCR) — A familiar name in Pierre political circles is looking to get back in the game. Former District 24 legislator Jeff Monroe has announced he’s running for South Dakota Treasurer. That post is being vacated due to a term-limited Josh Haeder coming to the end of his time in office. Monroe, a Republican, has served in the both the South Dakota House and Senate and says his goal as Treasurer is simple—protecting taxpayer dollars and making sure every cent is handled responsibly. In the Senate, Monroe served multiple years as either the chair or vice-chair of the Senate Taxation Committee. Monroe says Haeder has done great work as Treasurer, especially with unclaimed property and he wants to keep that progress moving forward. No other candidates have announced a run for Treasurer and Haeder has not announced if he is seeking another office at this time.
