The Pierre Governor volleyball team would go 0-2 this weekend with the Govs falling in three sets to O’Gorman on Friday and then being swept at home on Saturday to Aberdeen Central.
On Friday, the Govs lost 25-12, 25-10 and 25-9 in Sioux Falls as O’Gorman gained control early on in each of the three sets. The Govs struggled to get blocks throughout the evening as the Lady Knights had 34 kills on the night led by Lauren Venenga with nine and then Reese Venenga with eight. O’Gorman also had 16 aces on the evening while Pierre had just nine kills with two aces. Ally Keyes led with four kills for Pierre. O’Gorman went to 21-3 on the season.
On Saturday, Aberdeen also jumped out to fast starts taking advantage of the Golden Eagles not playing on Friday and would win 25-8, 25-12 and 25-15. The Governors were outhit 39-11 in the loss as Lauryn Burckhard would lead the afternoon with eight kills along with Kennadi Withers and Jaidyn Forsyth also tallying eight. Burckhard would pick up her 1000th career kill in the win as the Golden Eagles improve to 14-9 on the season. Marena Buschbom would lead the Govs with four kills. Pierre drops to 3-15 on the year.
