The Pierre Governor volleyball team couldn’t climb its way out of a 2-0 hole as the Governors would lose in four sets to Yankton on Thursday 25-22, 25-14, 17-25 and 25-13.
Tyan Beste would be the best hitter over the course of the night as she would get 15 kills, starting with seven in the first set, one less than Pierre’s total in the set. Yankton outhit Pierre 52-22 in the match as Nora Schramm and Madison Gukeisen would each have eight and Burkley Olsen and Gracie Gutzman had seven. Ally Keyes would lead Pierre with eight kills while Marena Buschbom would finish with five. Hadley Hart was a big lift in the third set to get the win to try and crawl back into the match having four aces in a row and five overall on the night, but Pierre drops to 3-12 on the season while Yankton moves to 5-12.
Pierre will be back on the road on Tuesday in Huron to face the Tigers for the second time this season. Coverage begins at 6:00 with first serve at 6:30 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
