The Pierre Governor football team played its best game of the season to date with a 44-0 win over the Sturgis Scoopers Friday night in Pierre to improve to 4-3 on the season.
The Governors punted just once in the first half and led 30-0 at the break as Kaleb Lounsbury threw for 244 yards in the first half and three touchdowns as Carter Schiefelbein, Jarren Deal and Hudson Stoeser each caught a touchdown pass while Carter Templeton hit a 23 yard field all in the first half. The Stoeser touchdown was an 80 yard drive which took only 39 seconds as the Govs ran a flawless two minute drill to get the final tally of the half. Carter Merrill ran for over 100 yards for the fourth consecutive game and scored a touchdown and Deal had a rushing touchdown with Cooper Terwilliger catching the fourth touchdown pass of the game from Lounsbury. Porter Hunsley had two interceptions and led the team in tackles with five while Max Schmitz had two sacks in the game for Pierre. Sturgis had just 118 yards of total offense with only eight in the second half. The Scoopers fall to 4-3 with the loss.
