
PIERRE, (KCCR) — Two Fort Pierre residents were injured in a fatal two-vehicle head-on crash in southern Spink County. The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the crash happened just after 11:30 am Tuesday morning, 19 miles north of Huron on South Dakota Highway 37 near the South Dakota Highway 28 junction. The preliminary crash investigation shows a Ford F-150 pickup pulling a camper with two people inside was traveling north on Highway 37 while a Freightliner Box truck was traveling south. The box truck struck the Ford in the northbound lane. The Ford came to rest in the east ditch while the box truck stopped on the northbound shoulder. The driver of the Ford, a 65 year-old man from Fort Pierre suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries and was using a seat belt. The passenger, a 63 year-old woman from Fort Pierre received minor injuries and was also using a seat belt. The driver of the box truck, a 44 year-old man from Huron was killed. His seat belt use is being investigated by the Highway Patrol.
