The Pierre Governor golf team has one guy sitting inside the top 15 after the first day as sophomore Tate Stoeser is tied for 14th after the first day of the state golf tournament in Rapid City.
Stoeser would shoot a five over par, 77 which is tied with six other golfers, but he is just two shots back of being top five and three shots back of moving into fourth place heading into the final day. Stoeser would have two birdies to help pace himself into a high quality spot after the first day. Matthew Eberhard would shoot a 15 over par, 87 while Ryker Edson would be at 17 over par, 89, Caleb Hutton a 21 over par, 93, Rigley Kulesa a 94 and Hudson Prunty a 97 to round out the six Governors. Still another day to go, the Govs can have better scores and shoot up the standings as they are currently 16th. Taten Mauney of O’Gorman was the clubhouse leader after the first day at Meadowbrook. He has a four shot lead over Gavin Weir of Harrisburg as Mauney is four under par, 68.
As a team, Pierre is 58 over par, 346 in 16th place, but are within 20 shots of moving to the top ten. Harrisburg as a team is leading after the first day at seven over par, 295, a four shot team lead over O’Gorman.
Day Two of the state golf tournament begins at 10:00 AM Central time as Stoeser will tee off closer to 11:40 as part of one of the top four groups. You can follow along with the GGID of 25SDBOYSAA.
